The Chair of Policy Analysis at the University of Bamberg has a vacancy (starting between August and October 2025) for a
Research Associate (m/f/d)
(post-doc)
(50% – 100% time working hours; German public service paygrade TV-L E 13; part-time also possible)
for an initial period of three years in a fixed-term employment relationship with the option of extension.
The research focus of the chair is the cross-national comparison of political economy and economic and social policies as well as quantitative methods. In addition to comparative welfare state research in European countries, there is also a special focus on the analysis of social security systems in countries of the Global South, so-called developing and emerging countries. In this context, the connection between colonialism and the emergence of social policy is examined, as well as the influence of war on social policy systems.
Job Description:
- Research and teaching activities in the field of Policy Analysis. Teaching schedule: 5 semester hours per week (SWS)
- Participation in research projects, publications in international journals and (assistance with) the acquisition of new third-party funding projects.
- Supporting further chair tasks relating to teaching, examinations, and self-administration.
- Furthering your own academic qualifications, with the goal of a successful academic career.
Requirement Profile:
- A relevant university degree (Diploma / Master’s or equivalent) and a qualifying PhD (or proof of submission) in Political Science or a related social science discipline
- Expertise in one or more of the following research areas: Comparative Public Policy, Welfare State Research, International Political Economy, Quantitative Methods (e.g. Geocoding)
- Ability to work independently, personal commitment, strong communication and teamwork skills
- Experience in quantitative empirical research preferably in the analyses of geocoded data
- Programming skills in STATA, Python or R
