The 2027 RSA Annual Conference offers three session types, each offering a different way to participate. Knowing how they differ will help you choose the right sessions to submit to and, if you are coordinating one, the right type to propose.
We invite scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to submit session proposals for inclusion in the upcoming conference programme. To submit a special session, either open or closed, please submit your proposal here.
What is the difference between an Open and a Closed Special Session?
Open sessions: The session organiser proposes the topic and provides a short description/call for submissions. Anyone interested can submit their abstract for this session. The open sessions currently accepting contributions can be found here.
Closed sessions: The session organiser proposes the complete session, including all speakers. Other delegates may not submit their abstracts for this session. Please note that all speakers must register to present.
General sessions
Papers submitted outside the open and closed sessions are grouped by theme and placed in the general programme. Each general session is listed under a topic alongside related papers. Visit the event page to see a full list of conference themes.
If you prefer to be in the general program, please submit your abstract via the RSA portal: https://lounge.regionalstudies.org/Meetings/Meeting?ID=606
