We would like to kindly invite you to the joint webinar by MountResilience and MOUNTADAPT: Climate Resilience in Mountain Regions: Connecting Knowledge, Sectors and Solutions.
Date & Time: 15 December | 10:00 – 11:30 CET
Registration: Teams Webinar
Background & Objective: Mountain regions are among the territories most exposed to the impacts of climate change, facing rising temperatures, more frequent heatwaves, extreme weather events, pressure on water resources, and increasing risks to infrastructure, ecosystems, livelihoods and public health. These challenges are deeply interconnected and require responses that go beyond isolated sectoral approaches.
The MountResilience and MOUNTADAPT projects share a common ambition: to support European mountain regions in strengthening their capacity to adapt to climate change and build long-term resilience. While MountResilience focuses on developing, testing and scaling transformative climate adaptation solutions across mountain communities and key sectors such as green infrastructure, agriculture and tourism, MOUNTADAPT focuses on strengthening the resilience of health systems and protecting people’s health and well-being in mountain areas. Both projects place mountain territories at the centre of their work and recognise the need for practical, place-based and multidisciplinary solutions.
This joint webinar will explore how climate resilience in mountain regions depends on an interconnected approach that brings together different types of knowledge, expertise and actors. Particular attention will be given to shared thematic priorities between the two projects, including overheating and cooling of buildings, green infrastructure, and the broader role of nature-based, technological, social and governance solutions in supporting adaptation.
The session will highlight how climate impacts in mountain areas affect not only the natural and built environment, but also communities, public services, health systems and regional development. By bringing together case studies from both projects the webinar will provide a space to exchange experiences, identify synergies and reflect on how mountain regions can design more integrated and resilient adaptation pathways.
To ground this exchange in concrete practice, the webinar is structured around two thematic focus sessions. The first looks at adaptation to heat stress in mountain regions, presenting two cases from Tirol (Austria): technical approaches to overheating and cooling of buildings, and the use of nature-based solutions to protect public health. The second turns to disaster preparedness, pairing Gabrovo’s (Bulgaria) shift from reactive response to proactive community resilience through an early warning and monitoring system with two healthcare-sector approaches from Tirol (Austria) to strengthening resilience against disasters.

Looking forward to seeing you on 15 December.
