What happens when the social and environmental dimensions of renewable energy projects meet the realities of project development, finance and investment?

India will need to deploy renewable energy at a very large scale. But building utility-scale solar and wind projects is not simply a question of technology and capital. Developers also have to navigate land and permitting processes, environmental and social risks, relationships with local communities, and, increasingly, questions of community acceptance.
The work will involve mixed-methods research, including survey design, interviews and quantitative analysis, as well as work with financial and project-level datasets. There will also be opportunities to contribute to academic papers and engage with research at the intersection of energy, finance, policy, technology and sustainability.
We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in energy, project finance, energy technologies, environmental/social risks, community engagement, or related areas. 3-5 years of experience and industry knowledge is an asset.
Open to: PhD scholars, postdoctoral researchers, and early-career researchers (India & international)
Applications are invited for project appointment under the following project. Appointment shall be on contractual basis with consolidated pay, renewable after 3 months subject to performance of the candidate in the project. The project is aimed at examining how developers of utility-scale solar and wind projects in India engage with local communities, navigate socio-environmental tensions, and mobilize global capital to scale renewable energy deployment, through surveys and interviews across diverse local contexts.
