The University of Milan-Bicocca (Italy) is offering six fully funded scholarships for the three-year Ph.D. Programme in Urban Studies (URBEUR) at the Department of Sociology and Social Research, starting on November 1, 2026.
The doctoral programme is designed to be a benchmark of excellence in urban studies, equipping scholars, researchers, and professionals with a comprehensive and interdisciplinary education. It provides a strong theoretical foundation and specialized training, with a particular focus on:
- Contemporary debates and research in urban sociology
- Transformations of local and national welfare systems
- Globalization and its impact on cities
- Emerging inequalities and Mediterranean urban cultures
- Conflicts, protests, and urban governance
- Housing policies, segregation, mobility, environment, and sustainability
The programme adopts a critical approach to urban studies, engaging with contemporary theoretical debates and examining the social, political, and economic dynamics shaping urban transformations.
The curriculum includes interdisciplinary teaching modules, intensive seminars, and advanced methodological training, with an emphasis on comparative territorial research, and spatial and visual data analysis.
The programme promotes international collaboration, offering opportunities for co-tutorships, joint degrees, and extended research stays at European universities.
