We are pleased to announce that the RSA Board have agreed funding for the RSA Research Network on Urban policy for the Sustainable Urban Manufacturing (UP-SUM).
In times of climate crisis, digital transformation and the transition to a circular economy, we need to rethink the role of manufacturing in urbanised contexts.
UP-SUM is an international research network supported by the Regional Studies Association (RSA). It brings together scholars from Turkey, Italy, Slovenia, Germany, the United Kingdom and Australia to examine how global transformations are reshaping urban manufacturing.
Over a two-year period, researchers will organise and participate in conferences, undertake comparative fieldwork, and analyse urban manufacturing practices and policies across diverse urban contexts, including large metropolitan areas as well as small and medium-sized towns in different countries.
By strengthening interdisciplinary and cross-national exchange, the Research Network aims to contribute to policy debates on resilient, circular, and inclusive urban production economies.
RSA support is crucial to establishing an international platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange in this field.

The organisers said:
We are thrilled to receive the RSA Research Network funding, which will allow our research network to connect researchers, share knowledge, and develop comparative insights into urban manufacturing practices and policies across different countries.
