About the role
The Regional Studies Association (RSA) and Regional Science Association International – British and Irish Section (RSAI-BIS) seek to appoint a Digital Media Editor to the journal, Spatial Economic Analysis.
The successful candidate will join the existing team of editors dedicated to enhancing the journal’s reputation as a world-leading publication in the field of spatial economic analysis, and ensuring that it is positioned to attract the best authors and papers for its readership.
The Digital Media Editor will be responsible for managing the journal’s social media presence with assistance from the RSA and creating a strategy to best disseminate journal content and engage with readers and followers about the journal and trends in the field. They may also be asked to manage peer review for a small number of submissions to the journal and make recommendations to the Editor-in-Chief on their suitability for publication.
The journal welcomes applications from candidates based anywhere in the world. The post is for commencement on the 1st of January 2026.

The journal takes regional economics as its focus and is targeted at international audiences. It is a leading outlet for high quality research from international contributors in the field of regional economic analysis.

The journal is supported by an editorial office, which manages submissions and the peer-review process. It is available online to all categories of Regional Studies Association members and is sold to a large subscriber base by the Publisher, Taylor and Francis. The journal is available singly to subscribers or as part of a pack with other RSA journals including Regional Studies; Territory, Politics, Governance; Area Development and Policy; and Finance & Space. The Association also publishes Regional Studies, Regional Science, a gold open-access journal.
Key Skills and Attributes
- Experience in academic publishing and familiarity with all stages of the process.
- Actively involved in growing and developing your academic networks and experience of networking through social media.
- Ability to maintain the journal’s existing social media accounts and further grow the journal’s online presence over time by driving traffic to journal content and engaging with readers and followers of the journal.
- Ability to further develop the journal’s presence on social media by developing a vision and strategy and establishing the journal’s presence on platforms where it is not currently active.
- A vision and enthusiasm for the continuous development of the journal.
- The capacity to devote time each week to the role, and to attend Editorial Board meetings and training sessions as needed.
- The ability to ensure all submitted manuscripts are considered in a prompt, consistent and professional manner.
- The ability to confidently use an online peer review management system or to learn.
- The ability to select appropriate independent reviewers, provide authors with constructive feedback based on the reviews received and make recommendations to the Editor-in-Chief.
- A strong commitment to ethical rigour as well as knowledge of the COPE guidelines and commitment to ensure that the journal adheres to strict ethical standards at all times.
Application instructions
In making expressions of interest candidates are required to submit:
- a brief Vision Statement outlining their intentions for the safeguarding and further development of the academic excellence, relevance and scope of Spatial Economic Analysis;
- a Cover Letter, including an indication of host institution support and a list of any potential conflicts of interest. The list should include the candidate’s other commitments and roles involving journals, books, and societies that produce publications (e.g. membership of publication oversight committees);
- a full CV – these may be in summary form but should give enough information to demonstrate embeddedness in the field, e.g., information about networks, conferences attended, relevant publications, professional memberships, etc.
The selection of the new Digital Media Editor will be made by the Regional Studies Association and Regional Science Association – British and Irish Section in the light of recommendations from the Regional Studies Association’s Journals Committee on which RSAI BIS representatives sit for decisions on Spatial Economic Analysis.
