The RSA Research Network on Green(ing) Global Value Chains for Sustainable Regional Development (GGVC4SRD) examines how the Green Transition is reshaping the relationship between sustainability and economic development, with green global value chains and their actors at the centre. It addresses a gap in understanding how policies such as the EU Green Deal, due diligence laws, carbon taxes and carbon markets will affect value chain governance and outcomes at the sub-national level, taking an interdisciplinary and critical approach.
A joint call from GGVC4SRD, Globelics and the SASE O Network on GVCs invites papers on green(ing) global value chains and sustainability, including work on the geographical consequences of internationalisation. The call welcomes contributions from any discipline, particularly encouraging submissions from early career researchers and scholars based in the Global South.
One of the co-organisers, Oliver Harman, says:
When we set up GGVC4SRD, one of the things we decided, albeit incentivised by the RSA, was that the agenda should engage with people beyond our usual regional studies circuit. This call is our funded attempt at that.
We are running a strand of activities jointly with Globelics and SASE. Send us a paper by 4 December and, if selected, you present it at an online workshop in the new year, with feedback from members of all three communities. A smaller group then works with the three organisations through 2027, with bursaries covering flights and accommodation to present in November at the RSA Regional Futures Conference in London, or the Globelics conference in Mexico City.
The bursary is the part we are most pleased about. Much of what we study sits in places where research is strong, but conference travel budgets are less so; hence, we do not always hear from these scholars when wandering European university halls, and the discussion is less for it. A flight and a hotel are our modest lever we can use ever so slightly to remedy this.
Submissions from any discipline are welcome, which is rather the point of putting regional studies, innovation systems and socio-economics in the same room.
