On 25 September 2026, the Regional Studies Association (RSA) partnered with the Ghana Geographers’ Association (GGA) to deliver two Postgraduate Training Seminars as part of the 2026 GGA Annual Conference at the University of Education, Winneba, Ghana. The conference theme was “Africa in Transition: Climate Change, Urban Growth and the Quest for Healthy and Sustainable Living.” The seminars ran in a hybrid format, with around 50 postgraduate students attending in person and more than 30 joining online. The RSA hosted the seminar remotely, and the speakers also joined via Zoom.
The seminar had two sessions aimed at building the research and publishing skills of early-career geographers in Ghana: RSA Trustee John Harrison (Loughborough University) spoke on Thinking with Theory: Moving Postgraduate Research Beyond Description, and Territory Politics Governance co-editor Joanie Willett (University of Exeter) spoke on From Thesis to Journal Article: Turning Postgraduate Research into Publishable Scholarship.
Benedict Arko, RSA Ambassador to Ghana, coordinated the seminars with the RSA. The event is part of the RSA’s ongoing engagement with researchers in Ghana and its support for postgraduate and early-career scholars internationally.
