In Brussels this October (8th to 11th) there will once again be an EU Open Days event focusing on regions and cities. This is the tenth year it has happened, but not everyone really understands what it’s all about, so let’s see what the organisers say…
“The OPEN DAYS – European Week of Regions and Cities is an annual four-day event during which cities and regions showcase their capacity to create growth and jobs, implement European Union cohesion policy, and prove the importance of the local and regional level for good European governance.”
The event was created in 2003 when the Committee of the Regions invited Brussels-based local and regional representations to the European Union to open their doors to visitors simultaneously. One year later the European Commission’s DG for Regional Policy also joined the adventure.
At this year’s event there will also be two ESPON workshops. The results of the RSA’s Open Days poster competition will also be decided there.
If you’re interested in cities, regions, or any related subjects from an academic or policy point of view it is well worth heading to Brussels in October. We hope to see you there!
