The Regional Studies Association is deeply saddened to announce the passing of our colleague, Stephen Ramos, on Tuesday, 20 January 2026. Stephen was a professor of urbanism in the College of Environment and Design at the University of Georgia, Athens, U.S.A, whose research focused on port cities, infrastructure, and logistics. Stephen was an active member of the international planning history community, serving as Associate Editor of Planning Perspectives, the journal of the International Society of Planning History. His most recent book, Folk Engineering: Planning Southern Regionalism, was published in November 2025. Stephen served as Editor-in-Chief of the Regional Studies Association’s Regions and Cities book series and was a valued member of the RSA Publications Committee, offering thoughtful and generous contributions to the Association’s publishing objectives. He will be much missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and working with him.
