The RSA Sir Peter Hall Award is a significant honour of the Regional Studies Association, recognising outstanding and lasting contributions to regional studies through research, policy, or practice. The award is named in memory of Sir Peter Hall, one of the most influential regional and urban studies figures. It celebrates individuals whose work reflects his legacy of intellectual rigour and commitment to making research matter in the real world.
Recipients are recognised for contributions that have reshaped how we think about and engage with regions and cities, and for addressing the complex social, economic, political, and environmental issues that shape them.
The award acknowledges achievements that go beyond academic scholarship alone and highlights those who have:
- Advanced theoretical and methodological innovation,
- Informed and influenced public policy and professional practice,
- Demonstrated leadership in building and sustaining research communities,
- Engaged widely with stakeholders, practitioners, and the public to ensure that regional studies contribute to societal well-being.
The RSA Sir Peter Hall Award honours these contributions and inspires the broader community of researchers, policy makers and practitioners who continue to tackle today’s regional challenges.
We are delighted to announce that this year’s Sir Peter Hall Award winner is Andrés Rodríguez-Pose, Princesa de Asturias Chair and Professor of Economic Geography at the London School of Economics. Andrés said
“I’m thrilled and grateful to the RSA for receiving the Sir Peter Hall Award. Peter Hall’s scholarship shaped how we think about cities and regions. Standing in his footsteps and those of previous winners is both an honour and a testimony of regional studies’ growing global reach and policy relevance.”
