Other information: Niamh is Dean of Social Sciences and College Principal in the UCD College of Social Sciences and Law, Full Professor in Urban and Regional Governance and Sustainability; and an Honorary Professor at the Bartlett School of Planning, University College London.
She founded and leads the Cities, Governance and Sustainability research group comprising PhD, postdoctoral researchers and colleagues working to shape current thinking and empower future action in support of more equitable and liveable places in a range of contexts. Her work is funded by a variety of public and private organisations. As PI of the CONUNDRUM research project, Prof Moore-Cherry is runner-up in the Prize phase of the Research Ireland Sustainable Communities National Challenge and has been awarded almost €2million in funding across the project lifespan.
Over the last decade, she has built up significant experience in working at the policy-practice-research nexus and input into the development of the National Planning Framework in Ireland and the UK2070 Commission in the UK. In summer 2022, she was appointed as an independent member of the advisory National Economic and Social Council (NESC) by the Irish Taoiseach (Prime Minister). She is regularly invited to sit on the Oversight Group for initiatives in a variety of government departments and is currently a member of the group overseeing the Ministerial Action Plan for Planning Resources in the Public Sector.
