Dr Dimitri Corpakis, is an independent expert, writing and talking on innovation, growth and technological change. An engineer and planner by training, he has close to 45 years’ experience on the European integration process, having worked for the Greek and the European Civil Service as of the early ‘80s. Prior to retiring from the European Commission in 2016, he led the ‘Spreading Excellence and Widening Participation’ Unit of Directorate General for Research and Innovation, dealing also with the Regional Dimension of Innovation and its links to Cohesion policy (European Structural and Investment Funds).
As of 2018, he co-founded FoSS (Friends of Smart Specialisation) an informal Brussels-based advocacy group.
His current research interests focus on mainstreaming Smart Specialisation, the new EU Industrial Strategy, Sustainability, Industry 4.0, Artificial Intelligence and its overall impacts, Global Value Chains and Regional Innovation Ecosystems.
