The University of Edinburgh is recruiting a postdoctoral Research Fellow, with expertise in energy and society, to research the relational and place-based aspects of energy efficiency retrofit and heat decarbonisation. You will join the UK Energy Research Centre’s current phase of whole systems energy research and also act as deputy lead for research on Affordability, Justice and Economic Impacts.

You will conduct research into the development and delivery of neighbourhood-based energy retrofit and heat decarbonisation programmes. This will involve working with communities and delivery agencies to review interventions, delivery mechanisms, outcomes and the role of socio-cultural relations in supporting equitable place-based delivery. The post will carry out research in the West Midlands, and possibly other locations, working closely with local retrofit organisations.
The UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC) has carried out interdisciplinary, whole systems research since 2004 and its current phase (2024-2029) is focussed on the multifaceted challenge of delivering the energy transition. UKERC continues to convene activities for early career researchers and to improve equality, diversity and inclusion and you will join a friendly and interdisciplinary environment. The position is based in Sociology within the School of Social and Political Science at Edinburgh, home to a growing number of energy systems researchers. Very open to part-time and flexible working arrangements.
