Ambassadors
The Regional Studies Association is a non-partisan, independent learned society dedicated to the advancement of regional studies and science. The mission is to promote academic excellence, scholarly discourse, policy impact and the open exchange of knowledge across borders. The Society does not take positions on matters of international relations or geopolitics, nor does it align with the political interests of any nation-state. The focus remains on the scientific and intellectual pursuits of our members and the policy engagement and impact that flows from this.
Our international presence is reflected in our network, which includes informal country-based Ambassadors, formal UK-based Branches, Country Sections, and large country- or multi-country Divisions. These bring RSA activity closer to members internationally. As of 31 December 2025, the RSA had Ambassadors in 41 countries, eight English Branches, five Sections and six Divisions (two in development, one on hold). Note that formal branches, sections and divisions have agreed legal constitutions.
Here you can find the updated Ambassador Guidelines and the updated Branch Chair Guidelines. For any questions, please contact samantha.wannop@regionalstudies.org.

Territorial Networks
The Regional Studies Association has an extensive international network of formal UK-based Branches, Country Sections, and large country- or multi-country Divisions, as well as Territorial Ambassadors who collaborate with the Association to expand opportunities for its members and introduce the Association to those who do not yet know us.
Research Networks
RSA Research Networks are formed by RSA members interested in collaborating to examine an issue that responds to the aims and goals of the Association, and which is of interest and concern to both members and non-members. These issues need not necessarily to have a direct policy focus, but the examination would normally lead to policy-related conclusions.
The maximum funding for Research Network Grant Scheme is:
- £10,000 (c. $12,700; c. €11,200) for newly established networks;
- £7,500 (c. $9,500; c. €8,400) for renewing networks.
