Named University of the Year 2022 by Times Higher Education, Northumbria is a research-intensive modern university with a global reputation for academic excellence.
Ranked in the UK top 50 (Guardian University League Table 2022 and Complete University Guide 2023), Northumbria recorded the biggest rise of any UK university for research power in the Research Excellence Framework for the second time in 2021 and is now rated within the top 25 in the UK.
We have ambitious plans for further development. These include launching a new Vice-Chancellor’s Fellowship Scheme to appoint exceptional academics, at all career stages, who share our ambitions and have research plans which will have a remarkable impact on any of our disciplines and/or drive development of our Research Peaks.
Appointed into a permanent Academic position commensurate with your academic standing and experience, you will hold the title of Vice-Chancellor’s Fellow for the first three years of your Northumbria career. Throughout this period, we will do all we can to support you to realise your research ambitions. This includes providing a research- focussed workload (with reduced teaching responsibilities), access to internal funding and engaging you as a member of our Fellowship Academy, ensuring you have mentoring, development, and interdisciplinary working opportunities.
To be considered for this prestigious opportunity you must demonstrate academic excellence, evidenced through your role in the production of world-leading research outputs and have experience of winning grant funding (appropriate to discipline and career stage). In addition, you must demonstrate a clear research plan detailing how you would use the Fellowship period and including details of anticipated outputs, income and impact.
