The interdisciplinary Research Group “Constructing Innovation” at HafenCity University Hamburg (HCU) – Spokesperson: Prof. Dr. Gernot Grabher – is looking to recruit
Two Senior Research Associates (Wissenschaftliche/r Mitarbeiter/in)
(full time, € 45.000 to € 55.000, TVL 13-14)
with a background (a) in geography/urban studies, or (b) in architecture/construction engineering. We are seeking outstanding candidates either with a completed PhD or at an advanced stage of a PhD-project.
The “Constructing Innovation” group is funded by the Department of Academic Affairs of the Hamburg City Council. The consortium consists of three teams at HCU – Urban and Regional Economics (Gernot Grabher); Theory and History of the City (Monika Grubbauer); Structural Analysis and Design (Annette Bögle) – and one team at Hamburg University of Technology – Technology and Innovation Management (Cornelius Herstatt).
The successful candidates will be required to contribute to the consolidation of the research group by supporting its efforts to acquire third party funding. More specifically, we expect
(1) collaboration on the proposal for a research training group funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) on urban futures;
(2) the exploration of topics and funding sources connected with research on cities and the built environment, and the preparation of related proposals;
(3) the planning and organization of academic workshop that are to discuss and frame emerging topics in the scientific community in an early stage.
Experience in empirical research, proven ability to publish, and commitment to funded research and to interdisciplinary work are required. Fluency in German is preferred. We are particularly seeking candidates who are willing to build a postdoctoral project within geography/urban studies or architecture/construction engineering in the exciting new university context of the HCU. The appointment is to commence at the earliest possible date. The contract will be limited until 30 November 2020. Extension will depend on the success in attracting third party funding.
