Two full PhD scholarships – Interdisciplinary Global Development, University of York, UK

IGDC Scholarships

We have two full scholarships to offer to exceptional and committed Uk and EU only applicants, which will be for three years, subject to satisfactory progress.  Areas where we are keen to promote scholarship include:

  • Global health and development. Possible areas for research might include the political economy of threats to health including tobacco and environmental degradation, and health governance.
  • Human rights, citizenship and health inequalities in the Global South. Possible areas for research might include disability, reproductive health, and mental health.
  • Natural environments and natural resources in the Global South. Possible areas for research might include governance of natural resources, environmental risk and resilience, and food and water security
  • Challenging mainstream views of development. Possible areas for research might include environmental justice, social movements, and innovations in development finance

These areas of interest are not exclusive, and applications for other topics are welcome, as are applications that cut across these areas. We strongly encourage applications from women, minorities and disabled people.

The successful candidate will be supervised by two members of the Interdisciplinary Global Development Centre (IGDC), which is led by the Department of Politics.

The Department of Politics is one of the leading centres for research and teaching in Politics and International Studies in the United Kingdom. It was ranked eighth in the country for its research performance in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework and is in the top ten of both the Guardian and Times/Sunday Times league tables. This is an opportunity to work with leading researchers to contribute to interdisciplinary research that addresses at least one of the major global challenges. The PhD studentships are funded by the University of York.
