The School of Education and Social Work focuses on transforming lives locally and globally. Through our high quality and internationally recognised professional education programmes we prepare graduates for professional roles that are required for the social, cultural and physical well-being of our citizens and society.  Our research focuses on how to best support excluded individuals and groups in society; how to best educate students across all levels of formal and informal education so that they might become engaged and reflexive practitioners; and how to develop strong communities.  The School is making a difference through its high level of engagement with local, regional and international communities, professional organisations, employers, and governmental agencies.

We are looking for a dynamic, ambitious, collegial and engaged Senior Lecturer who can contribute to the academic culture in Social Work at Dundee, particularly in the areas of teaching and learning, research quality and impact that leads to the enhancement of policy and practice outcomes for service users and carers. The Social Work team are a highly committed, vibrant and experienced group of academics.

The appointee will teach primarily in social work but will also be expected to teach on other programmes within the School or University.  The successful candidate will be an established and ambitious academic and will be expected to contribute to and take on leadership roles within one of the School’s research themes, contribute to the Institute for Social Science Research (ISSR), secure external research funding and publish internationally leading research outputs. The successful applicant will have expertise in social work, social policy or sociology and will join an experienced and ambitious interdisciplinary team.

Your priorities will include:

  • Developing your own high-quality research and work with others to take forward one of the School’s research themes
  • Play an active role in the Institute of Social Science Research, our joint institute with the School of Social Science.
  • Provide excellent teaching and learning experiences for students on appropriate subjects in the School at undergraduate and postgraduate level
  • Contribute to robust examining and assessment procedures, develop innovative learning and teaching materials and contribute to ongoing quality enhancement in line with School policy
  • Participate in the design and development of new programmes
Who we’re looking for:

  • Doctoral degree in relevant subject.
  • Expertise in Social Work, Social Policy, Sociology or related human service field.
  • Strong track record of internationally-leading research outputs.
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching and learning within a university context.
  • Demonstrated ability to secure external and overhead bearing research grants.
