This 18-month research fellowship might be of interest to young scholars in human geography able to speak and read Italian, and whose research interests focus on the geography of harbours, in hinterland corridors and energy infrastructures. The position is at the Department of Economy, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. However, please note that the research fellow is NOT expected to live in Venice, or close-by, but needs to take their residence in Italy. It is expected that the research fellow will start their work in January, 2024.

Abstract: The research project considers main development and investment projects in port infrastructures and in hinterland corridors, with the aim to assess the most important socio-economic and territorial impacts, with a special focus on coastal metropolitan areas. Particular attention will be paid to investments in energy transition in port areas. The project deals with the national context, yet it will focus particularly on Venice, Genoa, Naples and Bari.
Minimum requirements: candidates are expected to hold a master’s degree in the subjects of the research project, or related disciplines.
Preferred:
- Ph.D. degree;
- Completion of doctoral programme while awaiting the award of the degree;
- research experience in economics and geography of harbours and transportation;
- Specialization diplomas and certificates of attendance at postgraduate specialization courses, obtained in Italy or abroad;
- Experience in documented research activities at public and private institutions in Italy or abroad;
- other titles
The interview will aim to assess the short-listed candidates’ skills and expertise on the following subjects:
- specialized literature on port development and transport systems’ organisation, both from a socio-economic and territorial perspective;
- knowledge of English.
