**POSTDOCT RESEARCH FELLOW ON INNOVATION AND REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT**
The Chair on innovation and Regional Development (Prof.Doloreux, HEC Montréal) and the Urban Planning Department (Prof.Shearmur, McGill University) has opened a postdoctoral position to work on a research project on Innovation and peripheral regions. We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in economic geography, innovation management or related fields. The successful candidate will conduct empirical research in the context of the research project “Innovation and the periphery”.
The project is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) and collaboratively led by Prof. David Doloreux (HEC Montreal) and Richard Shearmur (McGill University). The appointee will work on research projects related to innovation and economic development in Atlantic Canada, and on the role and impacts of the innovation supercluster initiative in supporting innovation and economic development. Of particular interest is the geography of the impacts of the supercluster initiative. This work should allow for wider commentary upon links between firm-level innovation, public policy and localised regional development. The candidate is expected to work autonomously, but in collaboration with Professors Doloreux and Shearmur, developing and/or leading a specific research project in this field.
The candidate should have experience in independent empirical research, and a strong theoretical background in pertinent fields of innovation, economic geography and regional economic development. Familiarity with survey-based research, data preparation and statistical analysis would be very useful, together with good writing skills in English. Some experience with interview-based research would be an asset.
The appointment is to commence in September. The contract will be limited to a period of 1 year, with possibility of renewal for one year.
