POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN ECONOMIC GEOGRAPHY
AT THE SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES, EDUCATION AND SOCIAL SCIENCES, ÖREBRO UNIVERSITY
Örebro University is one of the younger universities in Sweden, established in 1999 and has over 15,000 undergraduate and master’s students, 500 doctoral students and 1,600 employees. The University is situated in mid-Sweden, approximately 2 hours from Stockholm and 2,5 hours from Gothenburg.
The School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences has approximately 250 members of staff. The subunit for Human Geography has around 10-12 staff members, including 3 PhD students. The subunit is small but still provides a dynamic milieu for specialized as well as cross‐thematic and cross‐theoretical research work. Economic geography research at Örebro University covers themes like urban and regional development, labour market dynamics, the green economy, place branding and regional innovation policy and transfer. Other research areas within the unit include social change in cities, urban planning, and environmental and climate issues.
The postdoctoral position is based on a scholarship financed by Browaldh‐Handelsbanken in Sweden. The position is full time and is limited to three years, but with a possibility of prolongation for another 3 years. The scholarship covers salary, social security, office space, computer and IT support, and includes a budget for expenses.
This position is foremost for research work, but the candidate can also contribute to teaching and supervision of students in social and economic geography, primarily at the MA level. The successful candidate is expected to conduct and publish research in economic geography (broadly defined) and will occupy an important role in the department’s research initiatives within the thematic framework of this postdoctoral position, including some administrative work. We are seeking candidates with an interest in developing research through interactions with researchers in economic geography and its subfields and/or other disciplines.
The position requires that the candidate should be present at the School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences for most of the scholarship period. However, a period up to six months may be spent as guest researcher at other universities in Sweden or outside Sweden.

Applicants should have obtained their PhD degree within five years of the application date, in economic geography, human geography, geography or related areas. The position is for an international researcher, i.e. a person holding a PhD from an university outside Sweden.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct relevant research of high international quality
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate in projects and networks and attract external research funding
- Pedagogical ability; training and experience in teaching
