Postdoctoral Fellow, University of Cambridge, UK

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Fellow based in the Physical Activity and Public Health programme in the MRC Epidemiology Unit, a department within the University of Cambridge’s School of Clinical Medicine on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. The programme is one of seven core-funded MRC research programmes.

The post holder will contribute to a programme of research on population-level approaches to the promotion of active living, focused on evaluating the effects of environmental and policy interventions and understanding related patterns and mechanisms of behaviour change. Working closely with the senior postdoctoral researcher, you will design, prepare data for and conduct analyses using a variety of observational and quasi-experimental datasets.

You will have, or will shortly be about to complete, a PhD in a quantitative health or social science, or in statistics. You must have demonstrable experience in managing and analysing quantitative datasets. We welcome applications from those with well-developed quantitative analytical skills who would be interested in applying them to this field of public health research. Experience in longitudinal analysis of cohort (panel) data, applying statistical methods for quasi-experimental causal inference, investigating patterns and causal pathways in longitudinal data, or the analysis of objective physical activity or spatial data would be a distinct advantage.

This is a three year training programme with a requirement for you to hold a PhD/DPhil/MD. Whilst we welcome applications from those who have submitted but have not yet been awarded a PhD/DPhil/MD, or are due to submit in the near future, please note that commencement of your appointment will be subject to the confirmation of the award within 6 months of the initial offer. For those candidates who have not submitted at the point of application, a formal offer letter will be sent upon submission.

For informal enquiries, please contact Dr Jenna Panter at jenna.panter@mrc-epid.cam.ac.uk or on 01223 746884.

The post is full-time but applications are welcome from those who would like to work flexibly.
