The Unit Economic Geography in the Institute of Geography at the University of Bern is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the team as of February 1, 2025 or upon mutual agreement.
The Post Doc position is for three years. The successful candidate is expected to develop and conduct high-quality research, to integrate in the research group and to contribute to teaching and supervision at the bachelor and master levels. A dedicated budget is available for fieldwork expenses and for travel to reputable international conferences.
The work of the Unit Economic Geography focuses on research in the areas of regional development and sustainability, entrepreneurship and (social) innovation, structural changes in urban as well as rural and mountainous regions, diverse economies and postgrowth. We have a strong policy orientation and work regularly with national and international policymakers. You can find more information about the research projects here.

The position

The salary is according to guidelines of the University of Bern
Tasks include
- Conducting independent and collaborative research and preparation of publications
- Teaching and supervision at the bachelor and master level
- Support of the group’s administrative activities
Required are
- PhD in human geography, economic geography, urban studies, urban planning or in a related field
- Demonstrate excellent skills in conducting empirical research and in writing academic texts.
- Some experience in teaching and supervision
- High motivation, commitment, and ability to work independently
- Commitment to work in an international team and contribute to its management
- A residence in Switzerland or the willingness to move to Switzerland
