OPEN CALL FOR A POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP UNDER THE EU H2020 PROJECT RELOCAL “Resituating the Local in Cohesion and Territorial Development” – BPD-RELOCAL-ISEG/2019

The Lisbon School of Economics and Management (ISEG-ULisboa) is recruiting a Post-Doctoral researcher (Bolsa de Pós-Doutoramento, BPD) funded by the EU H2020 Project RELOCAL – “Resituating the Local in Cohesion and Territorial Development” (www.relocal.eu), Project Grant No. 727097. This is a full-time fellowship for 18 months. The post holder will work with Professor Patricia Melo, based in Lisbon, Portugal.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION Candidates must have a PhD degree in Economics, Economic Geography or similar fields with a strong quantitative focus. Candidates should have experience using large datasets and panel data econometric methods. The candidate should have a background and published research in one or more of the following areas: socio-economic and spatial disparities, economics of inequality, regional and urban economics, development economics.

Requirements

Essential

  • Hold a PhD in Economics, Economic Geography or similar field with a strong quantitative focus, or have submitted the PhD thesis at the time of interview
  • Research background in urban and regional economics, development economics, labour economics and similar fields
  • Publications in one or more of the relevant topic areas listed above
  • Experience handling and managing datasets, especially longitudinal microdata datasets (e.g. EUSILC)
  • Experience and skills using quantitative data analysis techniques
  • Experience using advanced panel data econometric techniques and software (e.g. Stata, SPSS, R)
  • High standard of written and spoken English
  • Good communication skills
  • Experience working in a project team

Desirable

  • Project management skills

WORK PLAN The main duties of the post holder include: i) handle and manage secondary microdata such as the EUSILC longitudinal data files; ii) carry out longitudinal micro-econometric analysis of individual income; iii) analyse data using panel data regression techniques and statistical software (e.g. Stata, SPSS, R); iv) write academic papers and presentations; v) participate in project events and activities

LEGISLATION FRAMEWORK A fellowship contract will be celebrated according to the regulations defined by the Portuguese Research Council (Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia – FCT) in Regulamento n.º 339/2015 and Universidade de Lisboa in Despacho (extrato) n.º 6977/2015, following Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação approved by Law nº 40/2004 and its amendments, namely Decree-Law No. 202/2012 of 27 August, Decree-Law No. 233/2012, Law No. 12/2013, and Decree-Law No. 89/2013.

SALARY The fellowship amounts to €1495/month (12 months/year), according to the standard values published by FCT. The fellowship holder will have a personal accident insurance and is entitled to adhere to the voluntary social insurance scheme (Seguro Social Voluntário), pursuant to Código dos Regimes Contributivos do Sistema Previdencial de Segurança Social. The fellowship will be paid monthly by bank transfer.

SELECTION PROCESS Eligible applications will be evaluated by a three-member committee chaired by Professor Patricia Melo. Eligible applications will be ranked according to the job requirements listed above and a maximum of five applicants with an overall score above a pre-set threshold will be invited for an interview. Failure to identify suitable candidates with an overall score above the pre-set threshold will result in the cancellation of the advertisement for this job position.
