This is an opportunity to develop your academic career in a dynamic geography department in London with a mission to widen participation in higher education.
The role includes teaching human geography to undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as contributing to other teaching, research and administrative activities within the department. Preference will be given to expertise in the field of globalisation, critical social geographies and/or Black geographies, but other specialisms will be considered.
The successful candidate is likely to have a PhD in a relevant subject area, or be nearing completion, and a research track record in human geography.
- You will have teaching experience in design, delivery and convening of courses, preferably at under-graduate and post-graduate levels.
- You will be research active with an emerging publication profile, and an interest in public engagement and impact activities.
- You will have an understanding of the specific context of Birkbeck, the principles of widening participation in higher education, and working with mature age and non-traditional learners.
- You will be able to work collegially, across disciplines within geography and the social sciences more broadly.

This is a Lecturer A post, at Grade 7 of the College’s London Pay Scale which is £37,912 rising to £43,333 per annum.
The salary quoted is on the College’s London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the Greater London area.
