Call for presentations: 25th SPRU PhD Forum, 16th – 17th May 2019, University of Sussex, United Kingdom
Global Challenges, local contexts: Reconciling theory and practice in Science, Technology and Innovation
The SPRU PhD Forum is a unique, free, two-day event focused on giving doctoral researchers the opportunity to present their current research around Innovation, Science and Technology Policy, to a range of other doctoral students, researchers and academics from SPRU and around the world.
This is the 25th year that SPRU is holding this student-led conference (previously called Dphil Day) so we would like to invite you to attend and celebrate this milestone event with us. Building upon this tradition and reputation, this year’s conference aims to bring together interdisciplinary perspectives on Science, Technology and Innovation to discuss some of our transitioning world’s most pressing and complex problems.
We welcome presentations across all disciplines for the following research areas: Science, Politics and Decision Making; Energy; Sustainability and Development; Economics of Innovation and Industrial Policy; and Technology and Innovation Management. This year’s hope is to also encourage interdisciplinary research that falls across multiple areas or sits on the boundary between one of these areas and other topics.
Alongside topical panel discussions, the two-day Forum maximises doctoral presentations and we have two main presentation formats designed for any level of researcher:
– Short presentations (informal 5 minute slots, followed by an informal round table discussion on the topic of your research) – Full paper presentations (15 minute slots for traditional research presentations, open to all stages of PhD researchers who feel confident to outline their research formally and receive feedback)
Abstracts should be up to 300 words including a small bio of yourself that should be no more than 50 words. Please submit your application here
Abstracts should be submitted until the 28th of February. We will let you know if your abstract has been accepted by the 31st of March.
