Six fully funded postgraduate studentships, Loughborough University, UK

Applications are invited for up to six fully funded postgraduate research studentships in the School of Social, Political and Geographical Sciences at Loughborough University, UK.

Internationally renowned for its research excellence, the University has a vibrant research student community of around 1200 students supported by a £6 million annual investment. In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, every department was found to be undertaking research that is internationally recognised, with many regarded as ‘world leading’. The University is comfortably ranked in the top 20 of all major UK university league tables.

The School comprises the Departments of Geography (human and physical), Politics, History and International Relations and Social Sciences (Communication and Media Studies; Criminology and Social Policy; Social Psychology; Sociology). It is a partner in the Central England NERC Training Alliance (CENTA) for doctoral training and the Midlands Graduate School ESRC Doctoral Training Partnership.

Before submitting an application, you must contact the School/Department to discuss your proposal and to ensure that this relates to staff expertise. Please feel free to email or ring any member of geography staff who you have identified as having the expertise and who you think could oversee your work as a supervisor. Entry requirements: Applicants should have, or expect to achieve, at least a 2:1 Honours degree (or equivalent) in the major discipline of their research field (or closely related subject). A relevant Master’s degree will be an advantage.

Funding information: The studentships are open to UK/EU graduates with backgrounds in relevant disciplines and who are articulate, well qualified and highly motivated. The studentship provides a tax free stipend of £14,553 per annum for the duration of the studentship plus tuition fees at the UK/EU rate. International students may apply however the total value of the studentship will be used towards the cost of the International tuition fee in the first instance. Studentships are for three years and candidates will be expected to register for 1st October 2018.
