Finance in Transition: Lessons for the Future

You are cordially invited to participate in the 3rd international seminar organised under the auspices of the Research Network on Geographies of Finance and Post-Socialist Transformations and sponsored by the Regional Studies Association (RSA).

After two extremely successful seminars in London (September 2011) and Hamburg (May 2012) we will convene in Bratislava, Slovakia, in May 2013 to discuss the most recent developments in the ongoing global financial crisis and to critically examine the continuing financialisation of economic processes. We particularly welcome contributions focusing on the last two decades of economic transformation in the former state-socialist countries of Central and Eastern Europe and its links with wider European and global circuits of finance. Equally, we are interested in how developments in Central and Eastern Europe have re-shaped global circuits of finance in Western Europe and elsewhere.

As with our previous seminars, we welcome contributions in various formats – including full papers (20 min) and short interventions (5-10 min) – while also offering opportunities for sharing views, debating and informal discussion.

Our Bratislava seminar is being organised in collaboration with IGU Commission on Geography of Governance - with a specialist session planned on the topic of ‘Financialisation and Governance’ (see a separate Call for Papers; if you would like to present at this specialist session please contact Prof. Ján Buček, Comenius University, Bratislava; Email: bucek@fns.uniba.sk).

Seminar participation is free, but places are limited. Booking is essential for logistical and catering purposes.

If you would like to attend, present a paper or do a short intervention, please email us by 20th April 2013:
