Special Session 14: Industry Restructuring
Diverse Regions: Building Resilient Communities and Territories - Izmir, Turkey
Andrew Beer (firstname.lastname@example.org), the Universtiy of Adelaide, Australia
Industry restructuring has had an enormous impact on advanced economies over the past 20 years. The processes of change were evident prior to economic crisis from 2009, but have gathered pace and changed their expression in the face of a global economic downturn. Governments often struggle to develop effective responses to the processes of structural adjustment. Most have limited experience in dealing with this change, and very few have successful experiences to draw upon. This session considers the processes of structural adjustment in their entirety, ranging from gradual change to sudden and harsh economic shocks. It considers the evidence base on effective public policy interventions and new ways of conceptualising this fundamental component of contemporary regional economies.
